Song begins: (some lyrics taken out cuz they don't quite fit)
Ronnie breathing heavily as he steps back, urging the others to go on. Rachel is holding Benjie, she is hesitating, staring at Ronnie, while the others try to pull her away.
Voiceover: (Ronnie; this is internal voice, he's not actually singing)
I don't get it!
What am I supposed to do without Your light
Cause I don't understand how this is justified.
I never asked for this...
I'm lost if I go, but I'm dead if I stay
Ronnie looks back as the others move off into the distance, Rachel still hanging back
No matter the road I won't win either way,
He drops to the ground, leveling his gun as the soldiers draw closer
Must I go it alone, will I ever be safe? Oh...
The music transitions. With the first drumbeat, he launches forward, running into the open as he throws his gun aside.
Why God? Why have you forsaken me now?
Voices of soldiers yelling in the distance
I'm trying to feel You somehow, as I run from the shadow of death, back to the wilderness
Why God? Why would You lead me on?
Flash of Rachel, still glancing over her shoulder frantically as they keep moving
You show me a glimpse then You're gone
I'm trying to carry on,
Ronnie slows down and stumbles, falling to his knees. The soldiers are catching up.
Oh, why God?
Instrumental break. The scene is shown from above, aerial vision, Ronnie on his knees as the soldiers run up and surround him, scene cuts to Rachel standing on higher ground, clutching Benjie as she watches from a distance, her expression horrified. The wind is blowing hard. Sandy is calling her name, he runs up and grabs her arm, dragging her forward.
Rachel's voice, voiceover, she's not actually singing:
When we cannot see the other side
Be the star we follow through the night
She lifts her face to the sky, it is mostly dark, only a few stars
Till we see the sun, oh Adonai, hear our cry
Rachel's voice continues as the scene shows Ronnie being dragged to his feet by the soldiers, his hands bound. They shove him forward.
When we're lost and afraid, be the way and the light.
Scene moves quickly, Ronnie already at the prison camp
Show us your strength as we walk through the fire...
Sound effects: the sound of something falling to the ground. Ronnie is shoved to the ground in front of the commander
Back to Rachel, who is standing still, reaching out with one hand as she clutches Benjie with the other
Leader of Israel
Ronnie's voice joins hers
My El Shaddai, oh...
Rachel lifts her head in sudden desperate confidence. This is no longer voiceover, she is actually singing. She turns her face to the sky. Close in on her, there are tears running down her face.
My God, You have not forsaken us now!
Rachel and Ronnie's voices together, the scene splits showing them both at the same time. She is still moving on, running through the night, he is standing alone in the prison camp
You will work it together somehow!
As we run from the shadow of death back to the wilderness!
Rachel: My God
Ronnie: Why, God?
Rachel: I know You'll lead us home
Ronnie falls to his knees, head bowed. Rachel is standing, looking at the sky.
Ronnie: I can't feel You
Rachel: With You we are never alone
Ronnie: I can't hear you
Rachel: You're the one who will bring us shalom, my God
Ronnie: Why God?
Instrument break, Rachel's voice vocalizing. Ronnie shown at gunpoint, dragged away by the soldiers, switch to afterwards. Ronnie is lying on the ground after the soldiers beat him
Ronnie: (voiceover) Are You out there?
Rachel: (voiceover, crying, bowing her head in prayer) I know You hear me
Ronnie: My... God...
